I heard today that Gary Gygax passed away. I am quite sad by the news. I haven't been this sad since I heard that Jim Henson or Keith Parkinson died. While I never met Gary, he was someone who's creation has had a profound impact on my life. My love of character portrait art was directly influenced by playing D&D. All of my S.O.'s since high school have all been gamers. Reading Choose Your Own Adventure books (esp. the D&D-based ones) when I was a kid was what helped me into my love of fantasy and sci-fi books. People like to joke about gamers and put them into a "social reject" category, but D&D (and subsequent RPG's) is a social game that forms friendships & relationships, encourages team work, improves writing and storytelling skills and is a huge boon for artists.

It's a sad day, but I am grateful for the positive things this person has brought into my life!
