After finishing work for Claymore Entertainment & several other clients I discovered that I was completely drained of anything resembling artistic energy and had zero interest in anything fantasy or portrait-related. My day job and personal life also took over and I only had time for a few wine art kitchen pieces to play around with.
All this changed on July 4th when my friend and D&D "sister" gave me a sketch book for my birthday so that I could illustrate our long-term D&D game (I like to doodle while playing). Also, right about that time our three year D&D game lost a player and gained a new one. I love to illustrate role playing characters in games I play in (in fact, this is what got me started in Fantasy portraits) and so I found that in short order I had a new portrait completed (Wild Elf). Then I decided that some of our other characters needed updating.
At this point I am not sure if I will get into it again or if this was a short visit to fantasy art, but I am very happy with the results. I feel like I "leveled" as an artist over the last year while not doing any!
